Mailinator – Eliminate Spam With Free, Instant Email Accounts

Mailinator was introduced to me by my friend, Blake, and was very useful over break. I was doing some online shopping and didn’t want to give my real email address to the site I was buying from. Instead, I just came up with a random email address (like buttsniffer@mailinator.com), gave them that address, and if I ever want to check it all I have to do is visit Mailinator and type in ‘buttsniffer’. There’s no sign up required for Mailinator and you can use any email address you want. Just know that anyone else can log in and view the contents of that email as well. The only major drawback of the system that I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t allow for outgoing email, though I understand why they don’t allow it.

Why It’s Better To Pretend You Don’t Know Anything About Computers

So I knew I would end up getting bored over the break at some point (even though I have about 100 things to do in the next couple of hours) but my cousin sent me a link to this comic that proves especially true for the holiday season.  It seems when everyone is together for [...]

How to Hack and Mod Your Wii in Under an Hour

Filed under: Games, Tech by admin

Recently it has come to my attention that it has become frighteningly easy to modify your Nintendo Wii with nothing more than an SD card, an external hard drive, and a little bit of computer knowledge. This guide I found on gbatemp.net makes the process so easy that an 13-year-old with a hand-me-down Dell laptop could pull it off. After following this guide step by step, I have successfully managed to mod my Nintendo Wii in under an hour so that it is able to play games directly off an external hard drive. Below is a video I pulled off of YouTube (It’s good for something I guess) of what it looks like in action…

Share Full Resolution Photos and Other Files: Dropbox & G.ho.st

Filed under: DIY, Tech by admin

A popular term in recent IT news has been that of “Cloud Computing,” the act of migrating not only your data but your processes as well to a permanent online server. This way everything is accessible from any computer you use that has a web browser and an Internet connection. However, many people are still storing all of their data on local disks and either mass-emailing their pictures to their friends or uploading them to Facebook where they lose their clarity. There are, however, many alternative sharing options available. My two favorites are Dropbox and G.ho.st.

LogMeIn – Control & Access Your Home PC From Anywhere In The World

Many people are familiar with the popular Network Admin tool, VNC… Real VNC, Tight VNC, Ultra VNC, and a few others… But all of those programs require that you install software on both the host and client computers. LogMeIn, on the other hand, allows for full access of any of your computers from a web browser. Simply install a small piece of software on your home computer, then you can log in through their website and access it whenever it’s online. This also makes for an easy way to circumvent any type of network blocks you may have at your office by doing the browsing from your home computer.
