Surf Cable Channels From Your Laptop
Recently Comcast shut off cable access to thousands of their basic customers, requiring that they purchase a cable plan with a set-top box. Now, unless you only want to view network stations, you need to upgrade your plan and get a digital box to watch basic cable. Many people were outraged and decided to dump Comcast after this, but if you were unfortunate enough to live in a neighborhood where Comcast was your only option, you’re left in a rough place. You can either not pay the premium and never watch Comedy Central again, or you can shell out the extra monthly fees and get yourself a shiny set-top box.
Fortunately, there is another option for those of you who just want to watch TV but don’t particularly care about the quality. ChannelSurfing.net was brought to my attention by my friend, Giorgio (Who, for the sake of argument, we’ll call John). It allows you to watch all sorts of broadcasts, like the Australian Open, Winter X-Games (Today at noon EST), or ESPN. I haven’t known about the website long enough to know if it broadcasts out-of-market NFL games and now I won’t know until next season. Regardless, the site is worth looking into for anyone who doesn’t have cable readily accessible for whatever reason.
