This weekend I was shown an awfully cool trick that allows people to get any radio station that’s broadcast online to play on their phone for free.  Living in Baltimore, I’m a big 98 Rock fan, particularly because they broadcast the Ravens every week.  Recently they put out an app for the iPhone that allows customers to receive 24/7 unedited broadcast through their phone from anywhere they have 3G signal.  I, being a Verizon Blackberry owner, was a little miffed that I couldn’t enjoy unedited radio as well from any market…  Until I found Moodio.fm.

Moodio allows you to open a free account, select your favorite radio stations, and stream them for free through your phone’s mobile browser.  It supposedly works with Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile.  I’m not sure if it works on any other phones, but here’s how I got it set up for the Blackberry…

Step 1.) Go to http://www.moodio.fm/node/1 and create a new account.

Step 2.) Once your account has been created and verified and you are logged in, go to ‘Stations’ and search for your favorite radio stations.  I simply typed in ‘Baltimore’ in the ‘Name’ field and searched.  For my favorite stations, I selected 98 Rock, 105.7 The Fan (Baltimore), 106.5 Baltimore, and Baltimore City PD.  Yes, that’s right, the Baltimore City Police Department has a live online broadcast police scanner so you can hear all the downtown drama as it unfolds.  (If you don’t have a mobile phone, you can also check out the Baltimore City PD broadcast at http://www.rollcallradio.com/feeds/BaltimoreCityPolice.aspx

Step 3.) Point your phone’s mobile browser to http://m.moodio.fm and log into your account.  There you should find a list of the stations you selected in Step 2.  Simply click on the station you want to listen to and watch it broadcast live over your phone in a matter of seconds.
